Saints’ Singers are an upper voice, community choir based in Winterton, North Lincolnshire. The choir was founded in 2015 and has grown from a small group of 5 - 10 singers to a choir of over 50 members who regularly perform throughout the local area. Elisabeth Brierley, our Musical Director, passionately believes that everyone can sing and advocates for the benefits of music making for all. We therefore encourage anyone over the age of 18 who enjoys singing to come along to a rehearsal and join us!
As one of the only upper voice community choirs in the area, Saints’ Singers provides a unique opportunity for local women to come together to learn new skills, sing in harmony, make friends and perform at community and charity events in their local area.
In 2018, the choir hosted its first summer concert in collaboration with a local SATB community choir, Brigg Singers. The following year, Saints’ Singers hosted its own summer concert A Century of Musicals in All Saints’ Church, Winterton and they enjoyed performing this repertoire to a packed church! The choir now hosts an annual summer concert and alongside this they also enjoy performing at community and charity events throughout the year. We regularly perform at care homes and Lindsey Lodge Hospice on request as well as performing at local community events including Winterton Open Gardens, Winterton Christmas Carol Service and at local venues including Winterton Church and Winterton Pavilion.
Each Christmas, the choir raises money for a charity and these have included the North Lincolnshire Maternity Bereavement Suite, the Scunthorpe Salvation Army Group, North Lincolnshire MIND, Lindsey Lodge Hospice, Cancer Research UK, the NE Lincs. Alzheimers UK group and most recently, Hope House/Bosom Family Support. We strive to be a choir that is an important part of its local community and we are always looking for new opportunities to do this.
From March 2020 through to May 2021, the choir met online each week to sing together on Zoom and enjoyed re-visiting their favourite songs, as well as learning new repertoire. We even took part in a virtual performance for the 2020 Scunthorpe Rotary Festival of Christmas Trees. As restrictions eased, it was wonderful to finally meet and sing together in person on June 7th 2021, even if we could only meet outside! We were delighted to finally return to indoor rehearsals at All Saints’ Church, Winterton from September 2021.
In September 2022, we ran our first Come & Sing month and at the end of September, eighteen new singers joined the choir. Throughout 2022 and 2023 we enjoyed performing at a variety of community and charity events culminating in our sold-out 2023 summer concert: I Am Woman: a celebration of female singers and songwriters. In 2023 - 2024, we are looking forward to performing a selection of Songs from Stage and Screen on July 13th at All Saints' Church, Winterton.
We are grateful to Winterton 2022, Winterton Town Council, Winterton & District Lions and the ASDA Community Foundation for their support in 2023-2024.
